Power-Save Installed in Maryland Schools; Watch the News Broadcast

Instead of cutting funds for educational programs, one Maryland school district is trying to save money by lowering their electric bills.

In a joint effort between Power-Save and Frederick County Public Schools, a Power-Save unit was recently installed in the Flexible Evening High and Adult Education building. If the Power-Save unit meets expectations, the district could install one in each of its schools and save significant money on electric for years to come.

“I’ll be conservative and say if it can save 10%, that’s about $650,000 a year we could save," says Charlie Dalphon, the energy manager.

NT face=Verdana color=black size=4>CBS News Report Shows Power-Save 1200 Reduces Electric Bills

An unsolicited test of the Power-Save 1200 by Atlanta's local CBS News affiliate revealed a significant reduction in kilowatt hours.

Greg and Michelle Mark of metro-Atlanta agreed to install a Power-Save 1200 on their home as part of a "CBS News 46 Investigates" report. After several months of tracking, the Mark's electric bill shows a decrease of 240 kilowatt hours used per month!

Although these results are impressive, we fully expect to see the savings increase dramatically during the hot Georgia spring and summer months when air conditioners and other appliances are working overtime.

We had absolutely no knowledge of this investigative report prior to its broadcast so thanks to CBS News 46 and the Mark family for putting Power-Save to the test. We look forward to helping more families across the southeast and beyond save significantly on their monthly electric bills!

Improving Power Factor Saves Money

Power Factor is used to describe the energy efficiency of the power being used in your home or business. For example, a .59 Power Factor means that only 59% of the electricity that is being drawn thru your meter is being used effectively, the other 41% is being wasted! Therefore, increasing power factor is the key to saving money on electricity. As the video product demonstration on the web site proves, Power-Save energy savers improve power factor and save you money as a result.

The following is an important statement made by Baltimore Gas & Electric on their website concerning Power Factor:

”Power factor measures how effectively your operation uses electrical power. Poor power factor means your facility is using and paying for more electricity than it needs while doing the same amount of work. The net result is higher demand charges on your electric bill and overtaxing your internal wires and transformers.”

The Problem: Your Home Wastes Power
American and Canadian homes all have the same problem. They inefficiently handle inductive load. Inductive load is anything in the home that runs by motor including refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, heat pumps, washers, dryers, fans, blower motors, pool pumps, dish washers, vacuum cleaners and hair dryers. You get the picture, right?

All motors require a certain amount of reactive power (non-working power) from the utility to create the Electro-Magnetic-Field (EMF) around the motor to make it work. The problem is that your local utility delivers that reactive power to your home without knowing how much you really need. Your inductive load (motors) then uses what it needs and sends the rest back to your electric panel where it is "lost" - dispersed in heat never to be seen again. This loss is called I2R loss or "line loss". The problem with this equation is that you’ve paid for the lost electricity, because it's traveled thru your meter and been measured.

The Solution: The Power-Save 1200
The Power-Save 1200 unit stores the reactive power (non-working power) that would be otherwise lost. This allows your inductive motor load to push in and pull from the Power Save 1200 using the stored power, instead of asking for more from the utility. This process decreases your demand from the utility thereby decreasing your Kwh usage and lowering your bill each month!
